Shopping in the Denver area has been totally redefined in the last two decades. The shopping transition began with the establishment of the sleek and bright Cherry Creek Mall in the early '90s, which was a great sign of things to come. The Cherry Creek Mall was soon followed up with with resort-style malls, and then the new open-air, mixed-use shopping centers that seem to be spreading their way rapidly across the country.

Cherry Creek Shopping Center, centrally located a few miles from downtown, is Denver's premier shopping mall. Cherry Creek features world-class upscale stores such as Macy's, Nordstrom, and Coach, and is the exclusive Colorado home to Neiman Marcus, Tiffany & Co., Burberry, Ralph Lauren, Louis Vuitton, and also offers more than 160 other retail stores, dining establishments, and services. Across the street to the north of Cherry Creek Shopping Center, Cherry Creek North is 16-city blocks of the finest boutiques, restaurants, art galleries, spas and salons, and more.

Downtown Denver hosts smaller shopping venues such as the 16th Street Mall, the Tabor Center, Larimer Square, and the Denver Pavilions featuring mid to upper level national chains such as Ann Taylor, GAP, and Victoria's Secret, as well as unique boutiques and upscale dining.

Resort-style shopping took center stage in the Denver area at the turn of the millennium. Park Meadows Mall in Lone Tree and Flatiron Crossing in Broomfield reside on the southern and northern ends of the Denver metro area. Dillards, Macy's, and Nordstrom are the primary department store anchors in both malls. Comfortable food courts with large fireplaces and outdoor shopping districts set the tone for the newer malls in the area.

Twenty Ninth Street in Boulder, The Orchard Town Center in Westminster, Belmar in Lakewood, Southlands Mall and The Gardens on Havana in Aurora, The Shops at Northfield Stapleton in Denver, and The Streets at SouthGlenn in Centennial offer the newest concept in malls that take advantage of Colorado's year-round sunshine with pedestrian-oriented, mixed-use outdoor centers.

Traditional and updated malls such as Southwest Plaza in Littleton, Town Center at Aurora Mall, and the Westminster Mall, outlet centers such as The Outlets at Castle Rock, the Outlets at Silverthorne, and Colorado Mills in Lakewood, and small centers such as Aspen Grove in Littleton and the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder round out the major shopping options in the Denver metropolitan area.
