Abercrombie & Fitch
Based in a rural setting in New Albany, Ohio, Abercrombie and Fitch is a well-respected and self-proclaimed “casual luxury” brand known for its fresh American looks. Originally founded in 1892 in Manhattan, today’s A&F clothing and accessories represent the relaxed lifestyle of East Coast classics meets Ivy League roots. Pieces are timeless yet hip, catering to the late teens to early 20s crowd. For love of its logo, the A&F Moose makes its way onto much of the clothing. Categories for Men include henleys, crews, polos, jeans, boxers and belts, while Women’s feature the basics as well as more flirty goods such as camis, dresses, skirts and scarves to name a few. Vintage-look items make a huge play here and are finished with unique washes, waxes and fits. A&F’s signature fragrances Fierce (men’s) and 8 (women’s) continue to be best-sellers. Stores can be found in the United States, Canada, Italy and Japan. The company’s three other concepts include abercrombie (kids), Hollister Co. and Gilly Hicks.
Abercrombie and Fitch’s exteriors are hard to miss with their creamy white mouldings and thick black louvers which entice you to peek inside. Once there, flooring and display tables are made of dark, rustic woods while interiors are dimly lit with music and fragrance filling the air. Perhaps most striking though-and part of the company’s well-known sex appeal-are the various Bruce Weber photographs. Done in dramatic grayscale, the images showcase youthful perfection and portray a racy feel that A&F seems to succeed at. Employees are bubbly, young and beautiful, a perfect fit for the company’s “Look Policy.”
The company recently launched A&F Cares, a program focusing on humanitarian projects including diversity and inclusion, human rights, philanthropy and sustainability.
Got the look? A&F holds several annual casting sessions at malls and in cities around the globe. The calendar is posted online, where aspiring models can also go to submit information and photos. Take note, however, in order to be considered one must first be a store employee.
With flagships in New York, London, Milan and Tokyo and deliberate plans to expand, Abercrombie and Fitch has definitely put the Moose on the map.
