Born in Isreal, Tahari grew up in an Israeli orphanage, making his way to New York City with little more than $100 and a yet to be ignited passion for style. Unlike some designers, Elie Tahari was an almost immediate hit with audiences. He will also forever have the prestigious title of being one of the first fashion designers to open a boutique on Madison Avenue back in the early 70s.
