Jean Paul Gaultier
Perhaps one of the things that sets Jean Paul Gaultier apart from many other fashion designers is the fact that he never attended formal schooling in order to be “trained” as a designer. Truly this might be what enabled him to remain largely uninhibited in his designs and fashion shows, earning him the reputation of being somewhat unconventional with his more risque collaborations. Consumers need not think further than Madonna’s cone-bra corsets worn during the Blonde Ambition Tour in the early 90s to get an idea of what startling direction Gaultier’s distinctive imagination can take him.
But this is not to say that Jean Paul Gaultier is incapable of the more refined – quite the contrary, actually. He is also considered to be one of the industry’s greatest tailors, able to create men’s eveningwear and trench jackets that are both dignified – and fun. His collections contain clean, angular lines, rich fabrics and vibrant colors.
Jean Paul Gaultier’s clothing collections include a couture line and a ready-to-wear line. Over the years he has also expanded into perfumes, makeup and shoes. Recently he launched a brand specifically for Target stores, called Jean Paul Gaultier for Target. The Jean Paul Gaultier label can be found at Macy*s, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s.
