Saks Fifth Avenue
The first Saks opened on September 15, 1924 in New York City. Currently there are over 50 stores in more than 20 States, each specializing in American and European luxury fashion. Saks prides itself on its fast-paced work structure, where fashion and personalized attention are always a top priority for employees.
The goal of Horace Saks and Bernard Gimbel, the founders of Saks Fifth Avenue, was to build a one-of-a-kind specialty shop that would stand out in the crowd with its fashionable, chic styles. After purchasing land on upper Fifth Avenue, they set to work creating the first large retail store located in what was at that time primarily zoned for residential living. By continuously offering high quality fashions and spectacular customer service, Saks has become synonymous with grace and sophistication.
Over the years, Saks Fifth Avenue expanded from the east to the west coast, bringing its high-class, intuitive fashion to men and women nationwide. As late as the mid-90s, the store intensified efforts to increase its presence in the west by opening stores in Beverly Hills, Carmel, San Diego and Phoenix. Later, Texas would become the area of concentration, as well as San Francisco. The overall goal was clearly to dominate elite fashion and cater to the men and women who craved designer labels like Dolce & Gabbanna, Oscar de la Renta, Versace and Cole Haan.
Nearly 90-years-old, Saks has continued to stay on top of consumer trends. As such, they launched www.saks.com in 2000. The website not only allows customers to shop online for the items they are able to find in-store, but also gives access to exclusive products and information. Saks.com provides a superior, tailored shopping experience to the consumer, with 24/7 live chat, bill pay for the Saks credit card, and an exclusive membership program, SAKSFIRST.
