Country Club Plaza - Kansas City
Country Club Plaza, an upscale, open-air shopping center located four miles south of downtown Kansas City, is a model to other malls. Opened in 1923 on area that was once rife with pig farms, Country Club Plaza was the first shopping center in the world to accommodate visitors arriving via automobile. Modeled after great European plazas, particularly that of Seville, Spain, the center features stunning fountains, sculptures and murals that will make you feel as though you are in the heart of the Old World.
Putting aside the historical and architectural significance, Country Club Plaza is home to some amazing labels. You’ll also find a smattering of swanky local boutiques.
Nearly a century after it opened, the beautiful design, luxury retailers and innovative restaurants have given Country Club Plaza the longest life of any planned shopping center in the world.
