Pearl Swap: Four Ways to Wear a String of Pearls

By Jessica Abercrombie

Revitalize how you accessorize by transforming classic accessories into fashionably fresh supplements for your attire. Once a companion to only the LBD and cashmere sweaters, pearls have new meaning in the world of fashion and can be paired with any ensemble to add an air of class and spunk to personify the wearer’s stunning individuality. Pearls embody class, feminism and style and when paired with creative modernism, they unmistakably signify glamorous ingenuity.

Below are four avant-garde ways to wear a string of pearls, which must be a minimum of 2 feet in length for best results:

1.Pearled Cross-Body Bag: Place pearls around your neck and slip one of your arms through the pearls so that they are resting on one of your shoulders as well as across your chest. Select a small handbag (the satin black handbag here worked best for a black-and-white, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” look) and fasten the pearls just below the brim of the selected bag.  To fasten the pearls, pinch pearls together below the rim of the handbag, creating a loop, and then twist both sides of the strand together, interlocking the space between the individual pearls.

2.Belt of Pearls: Place pearls around your waist and fasten them 4 to 5 inches below your bust line. To fasten the pearls, pinch pearls together around your waist, creating a loop, and then twist both sides of the strand together, interlocking the space between the individual pearls. With the remaining strand dangling next to your body, fasten the pearls together every inch or so until you have run out of pearls to work with.

3.Bracelet Pearls: Wrap your string of pearls around your non-dominant wrist (if you are left-handed, wrap them around your right wrist and vice versa).  Wrap the string of pearls around your wrist tightly enough to secure them from falling down your hand while also leaving them loose enough to be mellifluous when they clink against one another.

4.Pearl Brooch: Grab your string of pearls with one hand and haphazardly pull portions of the strand into the palm of your hand, creating a jumble of pearls. Next, use three large safety pins to fasten the scrunched string of pearls onto your lapel or the top corner of your blouse. To fasten the pearls, stick the pin through your blouse or lapel from the underside so that the fabric between the pin and the pearls will act as a visual barrier protecting the pins from those admiring your fab pearl brooch.
