Spring Fling: Ready-to-Wear Spring Fashions

By Jessica Abercrombie

While the birds and the bees mingle in the flowers and trees, welcome the change in season with a vivacious variation of must-have spring looks. With balmy weather and sunshine in tow, this spring season touts fabulous looks including color blocking, creamy pastels, bright color schemes, funky prints and nature-inspired accessories, in addition to traditional pre-summer classics.

Making a huge splash on the runways during fall fashion week, color-blocked garments are paving the way for spring fashion.  An array of designers like Jill Stuart, Derek Lam and Marc Jacobs included brightly colored, fashion-blocked pieces in their collections for spring wear.  These fresh and vivid garments make stylish statement pieces that are crisp and clean, yet bold and beautiful like a ruby and peach, color-blocked dress from Barney’s New York.

When considering which colors are best to be blocked together, select from the cornerstone colors of this spring season: purples and tangerines.  Pinks, yellows, greens and oranges are always safe, but venture into clothing with hues of lavender, periwinkle, ginger or peach, like a loose-fitting tank or a knee-length Free People skirt.  If donning the pastel version of these chic shades, stride down blossoming streets with a bold heel like a Pierre Hardy black-and-white-striped heel purchased from Barney’s New York.

After putting together a spring-inspired ensemble, sass up your look with accessories that even Mother Nature herself wouldn’t be able to resist!  Display an insect-ornamented bracelet, or a quaint pair of flower-shaped earrings, which can both be found at Nordstrom.  These accessories may seem garish, but alas, we are not the creators of what is in and what is out, rather we are the wearers, so, embrace the imagination of fashion’s spring fling!

Below are a few options for your spring wardrobe:
